Sterling's lack of game time has alerted Los Blancos who have been huge admirers of the winger and Daily Star believes his delayed contract talks could also play a major role in his departure from the Etihad.
The former Liverpool man who has two left on his current contract with the oil-rich club has scored has 13 goals and 11 assists so far this season and has admitted that it has been weird for him.
Sterling told Rio Ferdinand for BT Sport:
"Don't get me wrong, this season for me personally has been a very weird one,'
"But nevertheless I'm still enjoying my football and giving my all to the team.
"Yeah don't get me wrong, if I don't score or do something to help the team I'm not happy coming off the field.
"Of course I am happy we've won but at the same time I think that's what helps me to get these goals is to be that driven and it's the perfect time in the season now."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Chelsea qualified into the finals of the FA cup for the second season in a row following a narrow 1-0 win over Man City.
The only goal of the match was scored in the second half from Moroccan forward Hakim Ziyech. The Blues were on the ascendancy in the first half and they looked at the more likely team to find the back of the net.
Chelsea thought they had taken the lead when Ziyechi tapped-in a cross from Timo Werner but the referee's assistant raised the offside flag after the goal was scored.
