Nigerian Army kills top ISWAP commander, fighters in Borno

The Nigerian Army has disclosed that it killed insurgents of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno state.
According to the director army public relations, Mohammed Yerima, the terrorists were killed when they attacked Damasak on a revenge mission.
Yerima disclosed in a statement via Facebook on Friday, April 16, that among those killed in the battle with troops were a senior commander of ISWAP, Bukar Gana Fitchmeram (aka Abu Aisha), and scores of his fighters.
He said:
''The terrorist and his fighters met their waterloo as they made a come-back following the neutralization of 12 high value ISWAP commanders in Mobbar local government area of Borno state in a week-long air and ground operations by the Nigerian military.''

The army spokesperson stated that airstrikes by the military killed top ISWAP leaders in Abadam, Marte, and Ngala local government areas.
Yerima added that the terrorists’ storage facilities that housed weapons used to conduct several attacks were also targeted and destroyed in the air raid by the air component of operation lafita dole.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has denied viral claims on social media that Boko Haram insurgents have taken over the Damasak area of Borno state.
The force, on its Twitter page, noted that the report is nothing short of blatant misinformation aimed at misleading Nigerians.
In a brief video shared by the Nigerian Army, the commander of the 5 Brigade, Brigadier-General SS Tilawan, disclosed that the insurgents attempted a cowardly attack on the town which was repelled by troops.
In another news, the Nigerian government has put measures in place to avert reported plans by criminals to attack some airports in the country.
According to The Punch, the level of security at Abuja, Lagos, Kano, and other selected airports have already been reinforced over the security threat.
