EFCC Acted Responsibly During My Two-day Detention, Says Okorocha

Former Imo state governor Senator Rochas Okorocha has hailed officials of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for acting responsibly during his two-day detention at the office of the anti-graft agency.

Sharing his experience in detention, Okorocha said he cooperated with the commission because it operated within the ambit of the law establishing it.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Sam Onwuemeodo, and seen by Legit.ng, the former Imo state governor said:

“EFCC was not a slaughterhouse but a responsible institution, established for the good of the nation and her people.”

Meanwhile, a coalition, Igbo Youths for Equity, has described the arrest of Okorocha by the EFCC as an affront to the Igbo, accusing the anti-graft agency of allowing itself to be used as a tool for a political witch-hunt.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng its spokesman, Captain Izundu Marcel, the group warned that Igbo youths will not sit on the fence while some interests continue to single out its key leaders for humiliation.

Okorocha finally breaks silence on his arrest by EFCC, reveals next plan

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Senator Okorocha was released by the anti-corruption commission on Thursday, April 15.

The former governor was released around 5:45 pm and headed straight to his Maitama residence in Abuja.

Recall that the EFCC arrested Okorocha at about 4 pm on Tuesday, April 13, at his private office in Abuja.

The politician was arrested after a five-hour standoff with EFCC operatives who trailed him to the location.
