Police Arrest Security Personnel Sharing Military Intelligence with Bandits

- An unnamed medical doctor has been arrested for supporting bandits' operations in Zamfara state

- The police also arrested two suspected security personnel who reportedly confessed to leaking sensitive military intelligence to the bandits

- According to the information commissioner in Zamfara state, a total of eight suspected have been arrested in connection with banditry in the state

The police in Zamfara have arrested one medical doctor and seven other persons for allegedly aiding and abetting banditry across the northwestern state.

This was disclosed on Thursday, April 15, by the state commissioner for information, Ibrahim Dosara, Daily Nigerian reported.

Legit.ng gathers that the medical doctor was arrested in Kamarawa village of Isa local government area of Sokoto state by men of the Operation Puff Adder. He was nabbed for allegedly supplying military kits to armed bandits.

Two of the seven others arrested were also suspected to be security personnel. They voluntarily confessed to have been involved in sabotaging many military operations in the state.

The suspects said they were engaged in sharing military intelligence, supplying arms and ammunition, military uniforms and other facilities to armed bandits.

Another suspect was arrested in connection with conspiring with the bandits and supplying them with ammunition, Vanguard reported.

Similarly, the Zamfara police command recently eliminated a notorious bandit who is the leader of a gang in the state.

He was killed during a patrol by officers attached to operation Puff Adder II. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by Mohammed Shehu, spokesman of the state police command.

In an earlier report, the Zamfara state commissioner for information, Dosara, put the number of bandits operating in the state at about 30,000.

According to him, about 2,619 people have been killed in various attacks by the bandits. He said the deaths were recorded in the state between 2011 and 2019.

The commissioner further revealed that 1,190 people were kidnapped from various parts of Zamfara state in the last eight years.
