Damasak: Nigerian Army Finally reveals truth about Boko Haram activities in Borno, Releases Videos

The Nigerian Army has denied viral claims on social media that Boko Haram insurgents have taken over the Damasak area of Borno state.

The force, on its Twitter page, noted that the report is nothing short of blatant misinformation aimed at misleading Nigerians.

In a brief video shared by the Nigerian Army, the commander of the 5 Brigade, Brigadier-General SS Tilawan, disclosed that the insurgents attempted a cowardly attack on the town which was repelled by troops.

"The reports in a section of the media that BokoHaram terrorists have overrun and in control of Damasak town is blatant misinformation. There was an attack by the terrorists sometime yesterday but they were effectively repelled by troops.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to assure residents of Damasak and adjoining communities to remain calm as mop operation by the troops are ongoing to flush out the remnant of the terrorists who attacked a section of the town.”

Earlier, it was reported that Boko Haram insurgents staged a fresh attack in Damasak, the headquarters of the Mobbar local government area of Borno, killing at least 10 people.

The attack occurred on Tuesday night, April 13, citing the chairman of the local government, Mustapha Bako Kolo, as its source.

It was gathered that an unspecified number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were also injured during the attack.

While the insurgents reportedly met stiff resistance from the soldiers of the Nigerian Army who were supported by the Airforce, the encounter left many civilians injured.

It was gathered that the terrorists stormed the area in over a dozen gun trucks and could be seen heading towards the Army base in Damasak, as residents were forced to flee for safety.

A military officer whose name was not disclosed said some residents of the attacked town were fleeing to the Niger Republic for safety.
