Party Chieftain Reveals Crucial Reason Why Governor Matawalle Cannot Join APC

Suleiman Shuaibu Shinkafi, the national coordinator of the Concerned APC Youth of Nigeria, has spoken on the alleged planned defection of Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daily Trust reported that Shinkafi said the Zamfara state governor cannot leave the PDP for the APC.
According to him, the governor must resign his position if he wants to join APC. He added that Governor Matawalle was not elected by the Zamfara people.
Legit.ng recalls that Matawalle became the governor of Zamfara state following the Supreme Court judgement on the crisis that rocked the 2019 primaries of the APC in the state.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, Shinkafi said it would be wrong for Matawalle to cross to APC with the PDP mandate.
He claimed that Governor Matawalle is being pushed to join APC with the sole aim of actualising his second term bid.
The APC chieftain, however, to the governor to be ready to vacate his seat in the forthcoming 2023 elections, insisting that the state remains an APC state.

In another related development, a former governor of Zamfara, Abdul'aziz Yari, has said his successor, Governor Matawalle, risks losing his seat if he defects from the PDP to the APC as he had allegedly planned.
He made the statement on Sunday, April 11, at the APC secretariat in Gusau, the state capital.
Yari who was represented by Senator Kabiru Marafa explained that based on a judgment of the Supreme Court, any Zamfara PDP elected official who defects will lose the position he holds.
In other news, Governor Matawalle has described the protests against the medical vacation of President Muhammadu Buhari in London, United Kingdom, as an attack on northern Nigeria.
Some Nigerians led by a former presidential aide, Pastor Reno Omokri, have been protesting in London against the president’s trip.
