Boko Haram Insurgents Stage Fresh Attack in Borno, Kill 10, Raze Down Police Station, Market, Others

- Damasak, the headquarters of Mobbar local government area of Borno state, was invaded by Boko Haram insurgents

Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly staged a fresh attack in Damasak, the headquarters of the Mobbar local government area of Borno state, killing at least 10 people.

Channels TV stated that the attack occurred on Tuesday night, April 13, citing the chairman of the local government, Mustapha Bako Kolo, as its source.

The news media added that an unspecified number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were also injured during the attack.

While the insurgents reportedly met stiff resistance from the soldiers of the Nigerian Army who were supported by the Airforce, the encounter left many civilians injured.

It was gathered that the terrorists stormed the area in over a dozen gun trucks and could be seen heading towards the Army base in Damasak, as residents were forced to flee for safety.

A military officer whose name was not disclosed said some residents of the attacked town were fleeing to the Niger Republic for safety.

In its reportage of the attack, AIT cited Kolo, the LGA's chairman as saying that the remnant of the UN Humanitarian Hub in the town was razed down by the insurgents, including the Divisional Police Station, the market, shops and residential houses.

The insurgents were also said to have looted medical consumables at the General Hospital in Damasak.

Kolo appealed to the federal government, particularly the military, to come to their aid.

Legit.ng gathers that Damasak is about 180 km from Maiduguri, the state capital, and borders the Niger Republic in the north.

Meanwhile, the convoy of the Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum, was allegedly attacked by Boko Haram terrorists on Friday, April 2, along Mongunob-Nganzai road.

However, the attack on the convoy was successfully repelled by troops comprising of soldiers and police operatives.

A security source said that the state officials were returning from Monguno when their convoy came under heavy attack by terrorists who rode on several gun trucks.
