Buhari’s Minister Urges Nigerians to Beware of Social Media Influencers

- Festus Keyamo questions the character of some who commercialise their opinions

- The minister of state for labour warns against using false activists as role models

- Keyamo is a senior lawyer and a human rights activist

The minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo, has warned that some people who commercialise thier opinions on social media do not have reputable character.

Keyamo in a tweet on Tuesday, April 13, stated that he pities people who make such social media influncers their moral compass.

He said:

I am not angry that some smart alecs have commercialised their opinions on Social Media and the so-called ‘struggle’. I only just pity thousands of gullible ones who still believe that these characters are on some altruistic mission to provide the moral compass for this country.''

Though Keyamo did not name anyone he accused of commercializing opinions on social media.

Meanwhile, a journalist, Omoyele Sowore, has been accused of applying for a grant for one activist and pocketing the money.

Oluwatosin Adeniji made the accusation on April 14 via Twitter.

She said:

“Sowore, it's sad that you of all people could take advantage of my predicament. I went to prison last year November over #EndSARS but you decided to apply for a grant in my name without informing me, before, during, and after the application was made.''

In another news, Governor Nasir El-Rufai said to make Nigeria better, youths, corporate professionals and religious leaders have been asked to join active politics.

The Kaduna governor asked youths and others to contribute their quota and make the country work. He also insisted that protests or activism will not take anybody anywhere.

He also urged good people to offer themselves for public service and suffer the indignity that "we all suffer every day". El-Rufai consequently urged Nigerians to be part of the selection process of those that offer themselves for public service.

In another news, a group, Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF) has raised the alarm about an alleged plot by some elements posing as agitators for Yoruba freedom, secession, and self-determination to cause fresh violence and chaos in the southwest region of the country.

YAF alleged that the plot was aimed at instigating bloodshed to achieve their plans to hasten the disintegration of Nigeria.

It further accused the agitators of mobilising youths in the region for more violent protests and bloody confrontation with governmental authorities and security agencies.
