Ebonyi Govt Says Recent Attack on Community not done by Herdsmen

- The Ebonyi state government has clarified the misconceptions about a recent attack in the state

The Ebonyi state government has disclosed that a communal dispute is to blame for the attack on the people of Umuogudu Akpu-Ngbo Community in Ohaukwu local government area of the state.

Monday Uzor, a spokesperson to the deputy governor, in a statement on Monday, April 12, absolved herdsmen of blame for the attack, Premium Times reported.

He said findings have shown that there is a link between the attack and the age-long crisis between the Ebonyi community and their Agila neighbours of Benue state.

According to The Guardian, the government further disclosed that the leadership of the herdsmen has denied involvement in the attack.

Uzor stated that the military and the police have been directed to move into the community to repel any further attacks and restore peace.

Meanwhile, the southeast governors' forum has launched its own joint security outfit for the region codenamed 'Ebube Agu.'

The decision was after governors and stakeholders of the region held a security meeting in Imo state on Sunday, April 11.

All governors in the region were present at the meeting which also had in attendance Army, Navy, and Air Force commanders, the Inspector-General of Police, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and other key stakeholders.

In a related report, the Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has explained why he and his colleagues in the southeast region of the country took the decision to launch their own joint security outfit codenamed 'Ebube Agu.'

According to him, the governors came together to synergise and see how best they can protect the lives and properties of citizens.

In another news, heavily armed gunmen have reported kidnapped about 15 passengers along the Tsakskiya-Ummadau road in Safana local government area of Katsina state.

This Day reported that the passengers were travelling in a commercial vehicle with registration number KZR 345ZT, when they were ambushed by the bandits on Sunday, April 11.
