5 Dead, Scores Injured in Fresh Attack as Bandits Invade Northern Market

A report by Daily Trust indicates that no fewer than five people have been killed in a fresh attack by bandits in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.
According to the report, the men who are members of the vigilantes’ group were gunned down during the fierce gun battle on Monday morning, April 12, during an attack on a local market and some communities.
The attack which took place at Bassa community while commercial activities were going on also left scores injured.
Co-convener, Concerned Shiroro Youths, Sani Abubakar Yusuf Kokki, also confirmed communities such as Beri, Beri-Kago, Gatawi, Kini, Bmada, and other adjoining villages in Manta District were attacked.
Kokki explained that the deadly attacks have become a daily occurrence in the local government area without any help from the authorities.
He added that many people sustained various degrees of multiple gunshot injuries while others were kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination.
This incident is coming two weeks after some unknown gunmen invaded a military base in Niger state, killing a soldier and 20 vigilantes, The Nation reports.
The commandant of the vigilantes Abu Hashimu confirmed the attack that took place in Kotonkoro village, Mariga council area, on Wednesday night, on March 25.
The gunmen reportedly ambushed the vigilantes after invading the military base.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that armed bandits on Saturday evening, February 20, launched another attack on Gurmana ward in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.
According to the report, over 15 people are suspected to have drowned in River Kaduna as they tried to escape from the bandits' attack.
Sources quoted in the report say the bandits were armed with sophisticated weapons and were shooting sporadically when they entered the community.
