Governor Ortom Apologises to Families of Slain Soldiers

I am sorry - This is the message of Governor Samuel Ortom to the families of 11 soldiers killed in Benue state.
Recall that the incident occured at Bonta Village, Konshisha local government area of the state.
The governor tendered the apology during the burial of the soldiers. The incident took place at the military cemetery close to Wurukwum roundabout in Makurdi on Monday, April 12, PM News reports.
He said:
“If I said anything that was offensive to the families, I ask for their forgiveness. I earlier said only two soldiers were involved based on the information available to me at that time.”

Going further, the governor vowed that he vowed to help in bringing those involved in the killing to justice.
He said:
“We condemn the killing of the soldiers who were out to maintain peace. Attack on security men is an attack on all. The attack was uncalled for and unwarranted.
“They were out to keep peace and got killed in the process otherwise, we all know what soldiers would ordinarily do in such a situation."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed reports linking troops to alleged killings of some innocent residents in the Konshisha area of Benue state.
The dismissal by the DHQ was in reaction to reports that troops avenging the killing of 11 soldiers had killed dozens of people in the state.
But Onyema Nwachukwu, the DHQ spokesperson, said the reinforcement team went after suspected bandits who killed 11 soldiers.
In another report, northern governors have asked the acting inspector general of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali, to make the country safe.
The chairman of the forum, Simon Lalong, made the call on Saturday, April 10, in a congratulatory message to the new police boss, Premium Times reported.
Lalong in a statement through his spokesperson, Makut Macham, said Alkali deserves the new role considering his track record of service to the nation.
