A former chief of Army staff and minister of interior, Lieutenant General Abdurahman Dambazau, has been given an earful by the O'odua Peoples Congress (OPC) for allegedly linking the group with terrorist organisations.
In a statement made available to Legit.ng, the OPC, through its publicity secretary, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, noted that Dambazau's position is capable of fomenting trouble in the country.
Claiming that Dambazau is an extremist notorious for his inflammatory remarks, the group attacked the former by referring to him as someone who is suffering from acute dementia and has thus lost touch with present realities.
The statement read in part:
"From his statement, it is obvious that the ex-COAS is suffering from acute dementia and he is gradually losing touch with the realities of this time.
"Dambazau's statement that OPC and IPOB are very much the same as the dreaded Boko Haram was made in bad faith and such statements have raised some fundamental questions about his intentions, interests and morality as a former COAS and minister of Interior that have allegedly been supporting the bandits by offering both financial and technical support to the group."
The group explained that it has been repackaged, re-orientated, and reorganised to work with security agencies in the fight against violent crimes.
Oguntimehin noted that proof of this is how the OPC gallantly protected police stations and officers during the EndSARS protests which were hijacked by hoodlums.

He said:
"For instance, during the ENDSARS protests, OPC came to the rescue in the southwest and we protected the police stations and the police formations against unscrupulous rioters that had hijacked the peaceful protests"
Speaking more on this, the spokesman boasted that currently, the fear of the OPC is the beginning of wisdom for terrorists and bandits.
Earlier, Dambazau had said there were similarities between the OPC, the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Boko Haram.
Dambazau, a retired army general and a past chief of army staff, described the OPC and the IPOB as extremist groups.
