Lionel Messi could not help his side escape from defeat in El Clasico as Real Madrid recorded a 2-1 win over their fiercest rivals, Give Me Sport.

Los Blancos overtook La Blaugrana in second position on the La Liga table and are now a point behind city rivals Atletico Madrid who were forced to a draw by Real Betis.

Toni Kroos who scored a deflected free-kick was named man-of-the-match in the contest but the German will not forget being used as a training cone by Messi in the game.

While Barcelona were trailing by 2-1, Messi was used his unbelievable quick feet to go past Kroos as he made it look so easy.

The Argentine released a pass to Ousmane Dembele who ran into compatriot Ferland Mendy but the calls for a penalty was not given by the referee.

Mendy was involved in another penalty incident with Martin Braithwaite in the final minutes of the game but Los Merengues ran away with all three points.

With eight games left in the play, the title race has been thrown wide open as two points separates Barcelona and Atletico and one point behind Madrid.
