Tension as suspected bandits rain bullets on Ekiti monarch

Suspected bandits in Ekiti state have opened fire on the vehicle of the Elewu of Ewu Ekiti, Oba Adetutu Ajayi, injuring the monarch in the process.
Vanguard reported that the traditional ruler was attacked by the gunmen on Friday evening, April 9, when he was traveling in his official car to Ayetoro in Ekiti.

A source said the monarch sustained gunshot injuries and now being treated in an undisclosed medical facility in Ekiti state.
According to the source:
“The monarch was traveling in his car to Ayetoro when the bandits waylaid him and in an attempt to escape, they pursued him and rained bullets on his car.
“The bullets hit him on the legs, arms and stomach. The traditional ruler is now receiving treatment in a tertiary hospital in Ekiti.''

The Tribune reported that the Ekiti state police command confirmed the attack on the monarch.
Sunday Abutu, the spokesperson for the command, said the Ekiti commissioner of police has promised that the perpetrators of the attack will be brought to book.
In another news, four bandit leaders have denounced their illegal activities in Katsina state and surrendered 45 rustled cattle, two General Purpose machine guns, 24 AK 47 assault rifles, 109 GMPG ammunition, 95 7.62MM Live Ammunition, among others.
Channels TV reported that the four bandit leaders were identified as Sale Turwa, Mani Turwa, Ado Sarki, and Sani Mai-Daji.
Parading them before the press, the Katsina commissioner of police, CP Sanusi Buba explained that their surrender is part of the Katsina police command’s effort in the ongoing onslaught against criminality in the state.
Meanwhile, following the incessant killings and abduction of innocent citizens of Nigeria, the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai has declared that all bandits must be eliminated from the country.
The Guardian reported that El-Rufai said the bandits have lost their rights to life under the constitution.
The governor made this known during a town hall meeting on national security organised by the state ministry of information and culture held in Kaduna on Thursday, April 8.
