FG Releases Names, Photos of Inmates Who Escaped From Imo Prison
- The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) is doing all it can to recapture inmates who escaped from a correctional centre in Imo state

Following the jailbreak that occurred at a correctional centre in Owerri, Imo state, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has released the names and pictures of some inmates who escaped from detention.
The NCS on Friday, April 9, via Twitter began to release the identities of the inmates in batches.
So far, 45 of the escaped inmates have been unveiled. Legit.ng recalled that 1,884 inmates were freed when the centre was attacked by gunmen on April 5.
However, as of Thursday, April 8, about 78 of the escaped persons were said to have been found.

During a visit to the facility in Owerri, Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, had said inmates who returned voluntary will not face sanctions for escaping from custody, but added that those who decided otherwise would be prosecuted.
On his part, Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo, had condemned the attack and promised improved security around similar facilities across the state.
He claimed that aggrieved politicians sponsored the recent attack on security facilities in the state.
The governor alleged that some politicians want to destabilise his government and that of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Meanwhile, Senator Rochas Okorocha has cautioned against politicising the security challenges in Imo state, even as he blamed the recent attacks on poverty and injustice.
The former Imo state governor made the comment while briefing journalists in Jos, the Plateau state capital, on Thursday, April 8.
The senator who represents Imo West Senatorial District in the National Assembly called on the government to urgently address the issues before it escalates.
In another report by The Punch indicates that the Nigerian Army began a show of force in Imo state on Thursday, April 8.
According to the report, the military exercise was a result of the recent attacks on Owerri Correctional Center and the Imo police command headquarters, and two other police stations in the state.
Sources disclosed that the military exercise was intended to boost the morale of security agents and to restore the confidence of the people in the security agents.
