Woman Breaks 111-Year-Old Government Hospital Record as She Delivers Conjoined Twins

A 27-year-old woman has given birth to Siamese twins at the Akuse Government Hospital in the Eastern Region, Ghana for the first time since the hospital's inception in 1911.
The mother and the conjoined twins are doing well.
Announcing this historic medical achievement in a post on Facebook, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who was invited to witness the rare phenomenon, celebrated the medical team led by Dr Tyrus Valmont.

''Today history was made. The Akuse Government Hospital established in 1911 successfully carried out its first delivery of conjoined twins (Siamese twins).
''Happy to report that mother and conjoined babies who are all my beloved constituents from Torgorme are well and doing great. I celebrate the medical team led by Odade3 Dr Tyrus Valmont for this remarkable feat."
The MP for North Tongu indicated that though the Akuse Government Hospital is located in the Eastern Region, it serves many of its constituents in the Torgorme, Fodzoku and Juapong enclave.
To mark the historic occasion, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa donated an infant incubator to end the years of lack of an incubator in the hospital.
He also donated other items requested by the experts for the mother and children, pledging to shoulder all financial commitments including the cost of final surgery to separate the conjoined babies who appear to be joined at the thorax.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigerian doctors successfully separated conjoined twins in Abuja.
A 78-member team of Nigerian medical doctors successfully operated on and separated conjoined twin sisters in a widely applauded surgery that lasted about 13 hours.
Legit.ng gathered that the head of the team that performed the surgery, Dr Emmanuel Ameh, said the twins were doing well and ready to be discharged from the hospital six weeks after the surgical operation at the National Hospital in Abuja.
