The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip has died at the age of 99. He was the Queen's partner and source of strength for 73 years.
The Royal Family confirmed Philip's death via an official statement posted on its official website on Friday, April 9.
Philip had been in and out of the hospital with health complications and he was reported to be deteriorating for a period of time.
He also took a hiatus from public functions despite his bubbly and ever-present nature.
In the UK, flags on public and landmark buildings have been lowered to half-mast as a sign of honour and respect to the fallen royal leader, Yahoo News reported.
Previously, the deceased was discharged from the hospital after four weeks in the health facility.
Prince Philip returned to Windsor Castle, west of London, where he had been living with the Queen during the pandemic.
He had been admitted to King Edward VII on February 16 on the advice of the royal doctor after feeling sick for some days.
The Duke of Edinburgh was receiving treatment for an infection and also underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition.

In other news, Queen Elizabeth II recently made her appearance at an event without a mask after she received her second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.
The Queen, who is now fully vaccinated, went out to mark the Centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force at the CWGC Air Forces Memorial in Surrey which is just a short distance away from Windsor Castle, without a mask.
In January this year, it was confirmed by the royal family that the queen and her now late husband Prince Philip had received the first dose of the vaccine but made no mention as to when they would be taking the second dose.
