Amotekun Takes Action as Violent Herdsmen Allegedly Enters Another Southwest State
- A socio-cultural group in Osun state has alerted security agencies to the mass movement of some herders into the state
- The group described the herdsmen as being violent, adding they were already constituting a security threat to residents in some parts of the state
- The state's security agency, Amotekun, has, however, given an assurance it is on top of the situation and will ensure the state does not witness herdsmen violence

A socio-cultural group in Osun state, Kiriji Heritage Defenders, has raised an alarm that there is an influx of violent Fulani herdsmen into some parts of the state.
Vanguard reports that the group made this known in a statement released by its spokesman, Ekundayo Ademola, in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, on Thursday, April 8.
Legit.ng gathers that Ademola said the herdsmen were entering the state through Kwara state.

Ademola said the herdsmen are moving around with cattle and are already constituting a security threat to residents of the state.
The group, therefore, called on the government and security agencies to act on the intelligence before things get out of hand.
Amotekun reacts
Reacting to the group's statement, the Amotekun corps commandant in Osun state, Bashir Adewinmbi, said the state has put a mechanism to check herdsmen-related crisis.
Adewinmbi said the state security agency holds regular meetings with the leaders of the herders' group, giving assurance that everything is under control, The Nation also reported.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Amotekun operatives arrested about 100 cows and nine herders along Akure/Ilesa highway.
The herders were arrested for flouting directives by the state concerning grazing rules.
According to the commander of Amotekun in Ondo state, Adetunji Adeleye, the cows were intercepted and arrested at the boundary of Osun and Ondo states.
In other news, the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to openly condemn acts of violence by criminal herdsmen.
Akeredolu made the statement on Monday, February 15, during an interview on Channels TV.
The governor asked security agencies to do their best in preventing criminality by erring herdsmen.
