Tinubu Reveals Aisha Buhari's Role in APC's Victories in 2015, 2019 Elections

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, says Nigeria's First Lady, Aisha Buhari played an active role during the 2015 and 2019 elections where the party defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former Lagos governor also described Ms Buhari as a voice of conscience calling Nigerian politicians to be their better selves.

The Punch reports that Tinubu said this on Thursday, April 8, at the public presentation of the biography of Ms Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The book, “Aisha Buhari: Being different,” was written by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration and Women Affairs, Dr Hajo Sani.

Tinubu who chaired the occasion said the First Lady has continued to enrich the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari with her contributions.

He said:

“Given the First Lady’s achievement, no one can reasonably question the role of a First Lady any longer. Remember that there were those who argued that the constitution does not assign any official role to the First Lady. With Mrs Dr Aisha Buhari, their concerns have been forever laid to rest.
“First lady has played an uplifting, unifying role both in symbol and substance. She has been a voice of conscience calling us to be of our better self for the good of the nation and for the vulnerable among us."

President Buhari, who is currently in London for a routine medical check-up, was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, The Nation also reported.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the First Lady called on stakeholders to put an end to the mass abductions of women and girls by bandits and insurgents.

Ms Buhari made the call in a statement she issued via her Twitter account to mark International Women’s Day.

She lamented the continuous mass abductions of women and girls, especially in the north.
