Tension in Benue as Gunmen Shot Two Policemen Dead, Abduct Expatriates

A report by Daily Trust indicates that suspected gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday, April 7, killed three people, including two policemen and foreigners in the Ukum local government area of Benue state.
Legit.ng gathered that the victims were killed when the armed men attacked Symmetry Trading Company located in Ukum area of the state where they abducted two foreigners.
According to the report, the foreigners are Chinese nationals working as engineers in the company.
The Nation also reports that the state police public relations officer, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.
Anene was quoted to have said:
“On 7th April, 2021 at about 0730hrs, a distress call was received from police officers posted to escort expatriates from the above-named company in Ukum local government area that, they came under an attack of gunmen who laid ambush at the site under construction before their arrival.
“During an exchange of fire with the gunmen, two policemen and one of the expatriate lost their lives while two of the expatriates were kidnapped.
“More police officers have been deployed to the area for the trail of the hoodlums and rescue of the kidnap victims.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that suspected kidnappers abducted Hyacinth Nwiye who serves as the All Progressives Congress (APC) caretaker committee chairman in Khana local government area of Rivers state.
It was reported that the spokesperson for the party, Ogbonna Nwuke, disclosed that Nwiye was abducted on the night of Sunday, April 4, from his residence in the Khana area.
The APC blamed Nwiye's abduction on the inability of the Rivers state government to guarantee appropriate security protection at the grassroots.
The party called on security agencies in the state to do everything necessary to rescue their kidnapped member.

In a related report, bandits killed eight persons in separate incidents in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas of Kaduna state.
The Kaduna state commissioner for internal security and homeland affairs, Samuel Aruwan.
The bandits barricaded the Kaduna-Kachia road around Kadanye village in Kajuru local government area and opened fire on a bus and a truck carrying firewood, killing five people.
The party called on security agencies in the state to do everything necessary to rescue their kidnapped member.
