Killings: Police Abandon Checkpoints in Southeast, go to Work in Mufti
- The mounting insecurity in the southeast has reportedly brought to an end to checkpoints by policemen
- The situation is also said to have forced policemen to wear mufti to work for fear of being attacked
- Coordinated attacks by unknown gunmen in the region has resulted in death and injuries to security operatives

An exclusive report by Vanguard indicates that policemen in the southeast have abandoned their checkpoints and now go to work in mufti for fear of being attacked.
In the past few weeks, armed men have targeted police stations and checkpoints in what security experts say is a coordinated attack targeted at the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the report, since the beginning of 2021, there had been bloodbaths in most of the southeast states and there appears to be no solution in sight.
The report revealed that following the attacks on the police at the checkpoint, policemen now go to work wearing mufti and only dress in their official uniforms when they get to their offices.

Last week, gunmen killed eight people at Adani, Uzo -Uwani local government area of Enugu state, and the following day, suspected herdsmen also killed 18 persons, including a Methodist priest in Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi state while his car was burnt.
There was also an attack at Aba, Abia state during which a police station was razed.
At Npkor near Onitsha, Anambra state, unknown gunmen drove to a police checkpoint and disarmed the security operatives.
From Npkor, the gunmen descended on police checkpoints at Omogho in Orumba south, killed three policemen, and set ablaze the police patrol van.
Two days later, gunmen also attacked another checkpoint at Neni in Anaocha local government area and killed three policemen on the spot.
Elsewhere at Awkuzu, gunmen attacked a naval checkpoint and killed some of the ratings on duty.
Later, there was another attack at Ekwulobia during which some gunmen attacked a bus conveying some prison inmates to court and killed two warders, a man, and a woman.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Anambra state command have arrested four additional suspects in connection to the recent attack on Professor Chukwuma Soludo which resulted in the gruesome murder of three policemen at Isuofia Civic Centre in Aguata local government area.
The spokesman of the police command, DSP Ikenganya Tochukwu, made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday evening, April 1 and seen by Legit.ng.
Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria governor and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Grand Alliance escaped unhurt.
The Anambra state police command had earlier arrested one suspect in connection with the attack on Soludo.
