Former England international speaks highly of Super Eagles star after AFCON qualifiers

John Fashanu has heaped praises on Super Eagles striker Paul Onauchu who has been in good scoring form for both club and country, Complete Sports.

The Genk striker was on target in both AFCON 2022 qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho despite coming on as a substitute.

And former England international Fashanu revealed that the 26-year-old who has scored 25 league goals has nothing to prove to be named number one striker.

“I am happy that Onuachu was able to score on both occasions he was introduced into both games; it was wonderful because the end justifies the means. I remember when I said he was a great player and that he was the player that we needed and now I was right. I think everybody else has seen how football has to be understood at the right level.
“I want to tell Onuachu well done and a big congratulation because he has proved to everybody that he is still number one and indeed a goal king. Let’s just try to say we are not trying to prove anybody wrong but that we can have a successful team with the right players.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday evening, March 30, rounded up their qualifiers for the 2022 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon with an emphatic 3-0 win over Lesotho.

Players of the three-time African champions produced superb performance in this game with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Etebo and Paul Onuachu getting the goals for the Super Eagles.

Lesotho started the match impressively with their forwards making some dangerous run, but Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was superb in his department.

And after the encounter, Paul Onuachu got praises from Nigerians and fans who were impressed with him scoring his second goal for Super Eagles in second game.
