Anambra 2021: Former southeast governor finally speaks on anointed aspirant

- Peter Obi has said that he has no special candidate for the Anambra PDP primary

As aspirants sweat it out for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket in the party’s primary election in Anambra state, Peter Obi has stated that he has not anointed any aspirant.

Daily Trust reports that the 2019 vice-presidential candidate made the disclosure on Wednesday, March 31, at an interactive meeting with state officials, local government officers, wards chairmen and secretaries.

According to Obi, every aspirant must go for primary and whoever emerges winner shall be supported for the election.

The former governor Anambra state went on to urge people to ignore anyone that says he or she has his blessings

He explained that his focus right now is for the party's primary to be free, fair, and credible.

The PDP chieftain while noting that not everybody has the capacity to win a poll, admonished party officials to vote for a candidate who has what it takes to win an election in the state and not somebody that will just be giving money.

Back in January, Obi during a meeting with major party stakeholders had predicted that the gubernatorial election would be a tough one for the party to win, Leadership reports.

He advised PDP stalwarts in Anambra state to brace up to the challenges of mobilising support for the party ahead of the forthcoming poll.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that ahead of the elections in Anambra state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has started the sale of governorship nomination forms for aspirants seeking to contest on its platform.

The party on Monday, March 15, announced that it had commenced the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2021 gubernatorial poll at the PDP national secretariat, Abuja.

In a related development, the idea former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo will be imposed as the governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra has been dismissed.

This is according to the national coordinator of All the Progressives Grand Alliance Media Warriors’ Forum, Chinedu Obigwe.

He assured that there would be a free-and-fair primary election in the party for the November 6 poll.
