A Nigerian man identified as Segun Akano is the only artist in the country that makes sculptures with screws.

Speaking with Legit TV, he said he decided to make sculpture with screws because he wanted to be identified with something unique.

According to Akano, the idea came to him in the middle of the night and he immediately acted on it.

Akano later found out that artists in other countries were also executing the idea.

He said Nigeria has not got to a point where art is totally accepted, adding that he wants artists to be more appreciated in the country.

In his words:

"One thing I would like the artists to do for themselves - not to cheapen themselves. I know that it can be difficult sometimes, artists need money and all that, especially people that paint portraits of prominent people out there and begging them with their work. So they kind of look down on artists.
"Once you know what you are doing, you must be competent, you must know what you are doing. So when you are good at what you do, you don't need to beg around."
