The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed serious worry over the disturbing presence of killer herdsmen in the southeast region of Nigeria.
The socio-cultural group especially reacted to the recent activities of some gunmen who came in the guise of cattle rearers and unleashed terror in the Adani Uzo Uwani area Enugu on Tuesday, March 30.
In a statement made available to The Sun on Tuesday, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group's secretary-general linked the attack to fears earlier raised by the United State's embassy that some herdsmen were about to invade the region.
Following this, Isiguzoro wondered when the military will begin implementing President Muhammadu Buhari's shoot-on-sight order over bandits and armed criminals.
He added that with the happenings in Enugu and other nearby states, there is palpable fear in the southeast.
Isiguzoro lamented:
“The people of the Southeast now sleep with their eyes wide open as untold panic had enveloped the air.
"We don’t know when Nigerian security officials will start carrying out Buhari’s Presidential orders to shot at sight anyone parading with Ak47."
The scribe, therefore, called on Igbos and local vigilantes to defend themselves against killer herdsmen in a bid to exterminate the menace.
