The two brothers claimed to be farmers while Ovie said he was an Okada rider.

Armed with dangerous weapons including a gun, the three allegedly robbed many residents of Bolorunduro, Ondo and carted away several properties in 2013.

The three accused were arrested in 2014 and were arraigned on charges which include conspiracy and serial robberies.

Justice Fasanmi in his judgement said the court was convinced beyond doubts that the three accused were guilty. He, therefore, sentenced them to death by hanging.

Nigerians react

Reactions by Nigerians on social media indicate that many found the judgement too harsh.

Tolah Magxibeatz commented on Facebook:

"This is too bad,I think they should appeal, the judge should have send them to prison."

Nimlang Salen Friday said:

"Same court in Nigeria sentence the murderer of the kogi PDP woman leader to twelve years in prison."

Unyime Bassey said:

"It is not proper, justice, how can the court delivered this such judgement? It is unfair."

"THIS is the more reason why the youths of this country should vehemently rise up against this evil system that protects the major thieves while allowing the hammer fall with brute force on those they have made hungry thieves by looting the common treasury.
"I bet the same judge would rule otherwise when children of the powers that be are involved."

Adegbola Paul Oluwatoyin said:

"What judgement then should we carry out on our corrupt politicians? This judgement is barbaric and it lacks iota of mercy. You could give the 3 of them jail sentence of numbers of years but hanging...., is totally out of it.
"Stealing and arm robbery is not good anyway. I believe the judge must have given that sentence based on his personal experiences with thieves."

Miebaka GA Fenibo said:

"Can't they appeal? I know stealing is not good but the people stealing billions are not touched and you kill 2 children from the same mother because they stole Phone? Abeg oo"
