Task Force Reveals What Politicians must Pay Before Contesting Elections in Northern State

All politicians in Kano state must pay Zakat before contesting any election in the northern state, the Zakat and Hisbah Commission has said.
Daily Nigerian reports that this made known by Safiyanu Abubakar, the director-general of the commission on Thursday, March 25.
Abubakar while inaugurating an 11-man task force committee for the collection of Zakat explained that the move is a deliberate move to help the needy in the state.

Zakat, one of the Five Pillars of Islam is an obligation required by Muslims to donate part of their wealth each year to charity.
The director-general of the commission went on to state that it is compulsory for every individual that is wealthy or organization to donate a percentage of their wealth as Zakat, Daily Trust reports.
Abubakar further explained that the commission had come up with a new method of collection with enforcement that every wealthy individual must pay his Zakat.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Sultan of Sokoto and the President General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, declared Monday, March 15, as the first day of Sha’aban 1442AH.
Abubakar, made the declaration in a statement by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
