Comedian Bethel Njoku better known as Senator easily comes to mind as one of those who have managed to build a solid career in the joke-telling industry, but this is not to say that he did not face his fair share of challenges on the way up.

The entertainer briefly shared how he was stoned on stage after he failed to impress members of the audience.
“My most embarrassing moment on stage happened years back. It was a long time ago at the University of Abuja, over 13 years now. At the event, the sound system became bad and the audience got angry to the point of stoning me on stage.”
On finding his way into the industry, Senator gave credit to God while acknowledging colleagues like Julius Agwu, Basketmouth, Alibaba, Okey Bakassi who all gave him the opportunity to showcase his craft on their platforms.
Fielding a question about the influx of online skit-makers in the comedy industry, Senator noted that they do not pose any threats.

“I don’t think so. Online comedians don't pose a threat at all. Both are complementary if handled properly and appropriately. They are all for the betterment and growth of the industry.”
Senator also explained how he has been able to keep his stage fright under control. According to the comedian, he has been able to get a hold of it because of the wealth of stage performance experiences he has garnered over time.
On a final note, the comic actor shared some useful pieces of advice for upcoming comedians trying to navigate their way in the industry.

“I really can't pin point any particular error or mistake. However, I can advise on what not to do. Firstly comedians must understand that your audience comes first and as such must create value and respect relationships. This is very critical to success in the industry. Secondly, the art of comedy has its own dynamics, so each one to his own uniqueness and gifts. It isn't a competition”.
Some months ago, Legit.ng opened the floor for its readers to decide on their comedian of the year 2020.
