Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has said the southwest should not focus on the 2023 presidential election, for now.
The Cable reported that the Oyo state governor said the region should rather focus on getting justice for victims of criminal activities.
Legit.ng gathers that he stated this at a pan Yoruba congress held on Wednesday, March 17, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Makinde who is the only governor on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the southwest called for cooperation to address insecurity in the region.
He also pledged that he will always take decisions that will be in the interest of the people.
His words:
“I stand on my honour that I will take decisions in the best interest of my people. Some people are talking about 2023. That presidency should come to the west, but that is not the issue for now. The issue we should face now is how people should get justice."
Makinde said he is not bothered about political positions but about the welfare development and progress of Oyo state and Yorubaland.

Meanwhile, the crisis between Ayodele Fayose, ex-governor of Ekiti state, and Oyo state governor, Makinde, took another twist on Wednesday, February 24, as the former threatened to work against the latter.
Fayose warned Makinde that he will work against him if he does not stop disrespecting him.
He insisted Makinde is not his leader in the southwest, adding that he played a strong role in his election as Oyo governor in 2019.
In another report, a panel of the PDP has said merit, not zoning, should determine the party’s presidential candidate in the general elections in 2023.
The panel which was chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state was constituted to review the performance of the party in the 2019 general elections.
Submitting the report of his committee to the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) on Wednesday, March 17, Governor Mohammed said every part of the country should be given the opportunity to choose the best candidate.
