Breaking: Presidency Releases Photos as Buhari Bags Niger Republic’s Highest Honour

- President Muhammadu Buhari got much recognition from the government of Niger Republic on Tuesday, March 16

Grand Croix Des Ordre National Du Niger, the highest national award of Niger Republic, was on Tuesday, March 16, conferred on President Muhammadu Buhari by the outgoing leader of the country, Mahamadou Issoufou.

The gesture was part of the events when President Buhari hosted Issoufou at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

Referring to Issoufou as an illustrious leader, Buhari hailed Issoufou for the successful completion of his second tenure and winning the prestigious 2020 Mo Ibrahim prize for Achievement in African Leadership.

Nigeria's number one citizen also showered encomiums on Issoufou for upholding democracy, improving the nation's economy, and fostering a stronger bond between both neighbouring nations.

Vanguard's report quotes the president:

“Nigeria-Niger relations are based on a long common border and shared cultural and historical roots. Relations between the two countries have, over the years, been very cordial and fraternal. There is a spirit of good neighbourliness between us."

Femi Adesina, a presidential media aide, quoted President Buhari as saying:

“I also congratulate the good people of Niger for the successful conduct of a free, fair and credible election.
“The achievements during your tenure as President have been widely acclaimed including through your recent award of the Mo Ibrahim Prize.
“You have earned the respect and affection of your people at home and your brethren across the border in Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the president virtually commissioned two roads in Owerri, the Imo state capital, completed within the first year in office of Governor Hope Uzodinma.

A presidential aide, Basir Ahmed, disclosed that the projects were commissioned virtually on Tuesday, March 16.

He said one of the roads, a 5km dual carriage Federal Secretariat-World Bank Road was renamed Muhammadu Buhari Road by the state government.

President Buhari at the virtual ceremony commended the Imo state governor, for his devotion to the welfare of the people of the state through the provision of quality infrastructure.
