Three dead, 284 hospitalised as strange disease breaks out in Kano

- Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Kano state is coping with the outbreak of another disease

- The state officials have disclosed the probable source of the outbreak

- Statistics show that the disease has not yet spread to other states

An outbreak of a strange disease suspected to be caused by food poisoning in Kano state has led to the deaths of three people, while 284 have been hospitalised.

The Punch reported that the outbreak which occurred on March 11, is said to have been caused by contaminated water and local drink.

The director of the Disease Control in Kano state ministry of health, Dr Bashir Lawan, confirmed the incident to the publication.

Lawan said the ministry of health has held a meeting over the outbreak.

The state commissioner of Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, confirmed that no fewer than 284 were hospitalised following the outbreak of the strange disease.

He said data showed that the affected people contracted the strange disease across three local government areas of the state.

Meanwhile, amid the circulation of fake coronavirus vaccines in Nigeria, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians to be careful.

PM News reported that the director-general of the agency, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, raised the alarm in the statement by NAFDAC’s resident media consultant, Sayo Akintola.

Adeyeye warned Nigerians not to patronise those selling counterfeit vaccines online in order to avoid falling into the wrong hands.

In another news, the federal government has said it will continue to administer AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines amid reported cases of possible side effects.

This was made known by Dr. Mukhtar Mohammed, national incident manager of Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 while speaking on Channels Television breakfast show, Sunrise Daily.

According to Dr. Mohammed, documentation has so far shown that AstraZeneca's jab is safe to use.

The PTF national incident manager's comment is coming on the heels of European countries suspending the use of the coronavirus vaccine after reports of blood clots in people who received the vaccine.
