Messi's contract at the Camp Nou will expire at the end of the season and he is yet to decide his future with his boyhood club.
Fabregas on the other hand has a deal with Ligue 1 side Monaco which runs until 2022.
Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims it is only a matter of time before their wives' plan comes to fruition.
"At some point, I am sure people will try to convince them to come to the MLS.
"And - I can't remember if I told you this story already - basically Cesc Fabregas wants to go to the MLS.
"Cesc Fabregas' wife and Messi's wife are very good friends and they both, the wives, have convinced Cesc and Messi to go to America together.
"So when that will happen, we don't know yet, because of course Cesc is still at Monaco. But it is something that is in the back of the minds of both players."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Ronald Koeman has insisted that Lionel Messi's future is still with Barcelona despite crashing out of the Champions League, Mirror.
Paris Saint-Germain got the better of the Spanish club with a 5-2 aggregate scoreline at the last 16 stages of the competition.
And Koeman believes it is not the end of the road for Messi's career at the Camp Nou as the club are still in contention for La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies this season.
