President Buhari makes another key appointment in NASRDA
- A top appointment has taken place at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA)
- The new appointee, Ahmad Shaba, is an official with many years of experience
- Shaba's appointment will be finalised after the Senate gives its approval

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm the nomination of Ahmad Shaba Halilu as the substantive director-general of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

Garba Shehu, a presidential aide, in a statement on Tuesday, March 9, disclosed that Buhari’s request was contained in a letter to the president of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.
He said the president was acting in line with Section 14 (1) (2) of the NASRDA Act 2010.
The presidency explained that:
''Dr Halilu was until his nomination, the acting Director General of the agency after being the Director in charge of Strategic Space Applications in the same organisation from 2009 to 2019.
He has participated in workshops and conferences on Global Climate Change, Environmental Pollution and Food Security; Future Earth Observation Satellite Programmes and Geospatial Information Management; and Geospatial Technologies for Economic Diversification among others.''

Other agencies where Halilu previously worked include the National Population Commission, Federal University of Technology, Minna, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
In another news, President Buhari has ordered the immediate deployment of 6000 troops to Zamfara to help in fighting banditry which has ravaged the states for months.
Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle made the announcement in a broadcast to residents of the state on Tuesday evening, March 9.
Matawalle said this is part of the resolutions of the presidency made known to him by President Buhari in his recent meeting with him.
He stated that the president has given armed criminals in the north an ultimatum to drop their weapons and surrender themselves to state governments.
Matawalle explained that the peace initiatives in the state have recorded successes, including the release of hundreds of kidnapped persons.
