Wakilu: Gani hails OPC, Ibarapa joint security team over arrest of kidnap kingpin

The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams on Sunday, March 7, praised the efforts of the Oodua Peoples Congress and the security operatives in Ibarapa which led to the arrest of the kidnap kingpin, Abdullah Iskilu Wakilu.
In a statement made available to Legit.ng, Gani, through his media aide, Kehinde Aderemi said that OPC and the security forces in Ibarapaland, Oyo state have made it clear that the Southwest is not an abode of banditry, kidnapping, and all forms of criminality.
The Yoruba leader also noted that the arrest of Wakilu and three other accomplices have proven beyond any doubt that violent crimes "need native intelligence, information gathering and grassroots support from local securities and operatives."

Speaking further, he said"
"...the effort to rid the southwest of bandits and kidnappers was to complement the efforts of the police and in doing that, it is also very important for the police to support the local security operatives because they are always at the grassroots and they have their ears to the ground on local security matters."
Gani said this good news will help to amplify the call for community policing, clarifying that members of the OPC carried out this feat without taking laws into their hands.
Earlier, Wakili had finally met his waterloo after his arrest by the operatives of the OPC. Wakili, known for seizing hectares of farmlands, molesting the women of the host community, and kidnapping the rich men for ransom in the Ibarapa axis of Oyo state, was nabbed on Sunday.
Speaking through his media aide Kehinde Aderemi, national OPC leader and Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams, confirmed the arrest.
