The governor of Katsina state, Aminu Bello Masari, has expressed his concerns over the activities of bandits terrorising communities in the northwest region.

He criticised the renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Gumi for demanding that the bandits, who are responsible for the death of many innocent Nigerians and destruction of properties across the nation, be granted amnesty by the federal government.

The governor said Gumi ought to be preaching about the implications of killing people to the outlaws and not amnesty, This Day reports.

Masari has vowed not to grant amnesty to bandits again, saying his government was betrayed in 2016 and 2019 after they went down that road.

He said a criminal is a criminal and nothing can justify the killing of innocent citizens. He added:

"Look my friend, a thief is a thief and a criminal is a criminal. They are criminally- minded and can’t justify killing innocent souls.”

Some Nigerians are in agreement with Masari and are wondering why Gumi has not been arrested.

Sharing his opinion on Facebook, Bright Ib commented:

"Gumi should be arrested now is one of the bandit destroying Nigerian."

Otunba Olayinka Odus stated:

"If we have a real and functioning government, people like Gumi should be behind bars for a long time and he should be telling everything he knows about the bandits."

The rate of insecurity in the country keeps rising at an alarming rate. Kidnapping and attacks on innocent communities have become a daily occurrence.

The Ruwan Tofa town in Maru local government area of Zamfara was on Wednesday, March 3, attacked by some gunmen who succeeded in kidnapping 60 villagers in their deadly operation.

As citizens continue to lament over the insecurity, President Muhammadu Buhari has told the newly decorated service chiefs that they have only a few weeks to secure the country.
