A local man, Gareth William Smith recently headed to Facebook's ImStaying group to share a heartwarming and inspiring post about a brave petrol attendant who jumped into action after a car caught fire at the petrol station.

"Hi everyone, I just wanted to share with you all a quick story. This man right here, Luvuyo Jahman UTina Konono, aka Phineas, is a hero.

"On Tuesday the 2nd of March, while at work he noticed a fire under the vehicle, doused the flames and then proceeded to climb inside the still-burning vehicle, to move it and save the recently re-opened garage here in MP.

"With the help of a followed attendant, , Jova Lova aka Sthembiso, to get the vehicle out of the way and keep everyone safe. Mpintshi this is the work of a true hero that is always willing to help. And this is just another good reason as to why I'm staying. Also just want to say thank you to CJ's for towing the vehicle and the Kriel fire department. #ImStaying," he wrote.

In other heartwarming Briefly.co.za news, earlier this week the story of how a brave cop had saved an old lady from drowning in a vicious river was shared online and soon went viral. The South African Police service have now released a detailed statement about the heroic event.

“I heard the granny screaming in the bushy area already inside the river asking for help. I couldn’t even see her, but used my amateur swimming skills and made my way through the thorny branches and into the muddy Kgoptjane River.

"I was not afraid to drown as my focus was to rescue the granny. I told her that I am here to rescue and save her life. It was frightening moment for her. She asked me how I am going to rescue her seeing that I don’t even have a rope. I asked her to take a grip of my belt as I started swimming with her towards the bank of the river. I spent almost five minutes in the river struggling to reach the bank," said the brave officer.
