Surprise as soldier suddenly pulls out gun during discussion with colleagues, shoots self dead

A Nigerian soldier identified as Bello Useni has reportedly shot himself dead on Wednesday evening, March 3, in Bauchi.
According to TheCable, Useni was at his duty post at the Obienu barracks in Bauchi discussing with his colleagues when he suddenly pulled out his rifle and shot himself in the stomach.
The newspaper stated that it is not clear why the soldier who with the Nigerian army school of armour in Bauchi decided to kill himself.
The deceased was reportedly one of those newly recruited in 2020. A source was quoted to have said about the incident:
“He was on duty alongside his colleagues. They were all discussing normal soldier things and suddenly, he pulled out his gun and shot himself in the stomach."
The source added that the soldier could not be taken to the hospital as he died immediately on the spot.
Useni's body has been reportedly deposited at the mortuary.
Meanwhile, the other soldiers he was with at the time of the incident have been reportedly locked up, pending investigation.
It was learnt that the army headquarters had been informed while the incident had been scheduled for investigation.

In a similar development, a Nigerian soldier in the frontline of the anti-Boko Haram fight committed suicide in September 2020.
The soldier, identified as Lance Corporal Victor Ojeamiran, killed himself as a result of being falsely accused of phone theft and punished publicly by his superior.
The late soldier's colleagues said he was attached to the Nigerian Army 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Gari, Gujba local government area of Yobe state.
