Governor Seyi Makinde has said that private investors won't be provided with free land by Oyo state for ranching.
Legit.ng gathered that the governor stated this following reaction to his statement on the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) in Oyo.
Makinde in a tweet on Wednesday, March 3, clarified that Oyo state will adopt the National Livestock Transformation Plan which is already being implemented in Kwara State.
The governor speaking after a meeting with his Kwara state counterpart, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, believes that ranching is a private business.
Some Nigerians have been commenting on Makinde's statement via social media.

"As good as this tweet is, I suggest government should carry out due diligence by ensuring no land is sold outrightly for ranching, leasing should be the way out, selling to them entitles them but leasing is time bound. Check it well H.E."

"This is the right approach. To go a step further, the State can identify established entities who will finance and fund ranching, CHI, ZARTECH etc can do so, and will not need subsidy. Oodua Investment through SwAgCo can also focus on livestock for sufficiency."

"You are from the Private sector. It won't be a bad idea for OYSG to look into a PPP model for industrial ranching.
OYSG provides land. Private sector provides financial investment. Charge/Tax the cattle owners per cattle in the ranch. Recoup investment."
Nigerian governors agree to end open grazing nationwide
Earlier, the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) on Thursday, February 11 said it had reached a consensus on the need for the country to transition into modern systems of animal husbandry that will replace open, night, and underage grazing in the country.
The NGF's resolution was contained in a communique signed by its chairman and Ekiti state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
In the communique seen by Legit.ng, governors were encouraged to put in place systems to accelerate the grazing initiative of the National Livestock Transformation Plan and ranching in the country.
