Director-general of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has congratulated her sister, Njideka Okonjo-Udochi, who was named Maryland’s family physician of the year.

With this, another Nigerian woman has made the country proud on the international stage.

She wrote:

Congratulations Dr Njideka Udochi, Maryland’s Family Physician Of The Year. Thank you for your care of COVID-19 patients and for saving so many lives. Proud of you my sister."

Okonjo-Udochi who graduated from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences is described on her Linkedin page as an experienced medical director with a demonstrated history of working in the medical practice industry.

She is said to be skilled in Medical Education, Epidemiology, Pediatrics, Medicine, and Emergency Medicine.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have quickly reacted to the news with many people praising her.

@moneyprince767 wrote:

"I am not surprise at all hearing the name ''Njideka'' because we don't beg for reward and appointment but those mentioned chased and begged us to accept them. Congratulations Ada-Igbo n' Maryland United State Of America."

@sinachilo also said:

"Igbo women kwenu , hope our people ( men )will start giving us the respect we deserve and not, woman? Doing this or that , we want to rise please stop suppressing us African men."

@RichyX11 added:

"Igbo women have always been known to do exploits. And Igbo men as a collective have always loved and admired that in our women. There’s a reason we call our women “Agu nwanyi” meaning “lioness”. NOI went to school and was inspired to become an economist by her father. Research!"

Recall Legit.ng had reported that congratulations were in order again for the Okonjo's family as one of them recorded huge success in faraway America just at the time her sister assumed office as the first female head and first African to lead the World Trade Organisation.

Dr Njideka emerged the family doctor of the year 2021 in Maryland, USA.

Udochi, a medicine graduate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with over 33 years of experience in the medical line becomes the first black female winner of the reputable award.
