Following his verbal attack on Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Smart Adeyemi, a senator from Kogi state, has been asked to apologise to the governor of Abia state.

The call was made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) southeast zone on Monday, March 1 through the zonal publicity secretary, Augustine Elochukwu, in a statement issued to journalists.

He said the senator lied against Governor Ikpeazu, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng had reported that the Kogi senator was contributing to a motion on Safe School Initiative in Nigeria when he blurted out that Abia is governed by “drunkards” after comparing the southeast state to his home state of Kogi.

Going further, the PDP warned that if the senator failed to apologise, legal actions would be taken against him.

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that Ikpeazu hit back at Smart Adeyemi for describing him as a "champagne drinking governor”.

In a swift reaction, Ikpeazu labelled Adeyemi's comment as "careless and dishonourable", describing him as someone suffering from dementia.

The Abia governor, who reacted through his press secretary Onyebuchi Ememanka, said:

"Our view is that the Senator is either suffering from a protracted case of mental illness or is battling with occasional fits of schizophrenia which manifests in making careless, dishonorable, unrelated and incoherent statements."

In another development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Senate minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe to apologise to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state.

The APC made the demand via a statement seen by Legit.ng on Monday, March 1, and signed by its acting deputy national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena.
