Satguru Maharaj ji, the founder of One Love Family, has reportedly called on the federal government to arrest Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for allegedly aiding and abetting banditry and terrorism.
The Nation reports that Maharaj ji in a statement released on Sunday, March 28, said the utterances of Gumi in a television programme, allegedly justifying kidnapping by the Fulani, showed him as somebody aiding and abetting banditry and terrorism.
He quoted Gumi as saying in a TV programme that the Fulani were into kidnapping to make money, as they had no civilisation, noting that such justification was uncalled for and dangerous for the peace of the country.
In a related development, the North East Elders for Peace and Development has cautioned Sheikh Gumi against justifying illegal acts and other associated criminality ravaging the north.
The elders expressed fear that recent comments and attitudes of the cleric could embolden the bandits.
While dissociating themselves from comments credited to Gumi where he accused the Nigerian military of triggering the raging banditry in parts of the north, the elders accused the cleric of making wild and unsubstantiated claims.
