Magical Messi, Dembele score as Barcelona defeat Sevilla in highly-entertaining La Liga fixture

Lionel Messi scored a late goal to cement Barcelona’s early lead in their La Liga cracker against impressive Sevilla on Saturday afternoon, February 27.

The Catalan giants made a trip to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium where they managed to claim all three points - thanks to goals by Ousmane Demebele and Messi as it ended 0-2.

The opening goal of the encounter came in the 28th minute after the Argentine Messi cut open the Sevilla defence with a ball into the path of Dembélé, who took one touch and then coolly placed the ball pass goalkeeper Bono into the far bottom corner.

A moment of concern came up as there was a VAR check for offside, but the goal stood. 1-0 Barcelona!

It would have been two nil in the 39th minute when De Jong found Sergio Dest on the edge of the box, then the US youngster cut inside one defender and let fly with the his right boot with the ball sailing over.

Coach Julen Lopetegui made three half-time substitutions for Sevilla half at the start of the second in a bid to change things.

But it was Barcelona that missed another opportunity to extend their lead in the 58th minute as the ball passed through the feet of a few Barca players until it reached Alba on far side of the box.

His cross towards Dembélé went across goal, passed the Frenchman and reached the unmarked Dest, who fired his shot off the top part of the near post from 8 yards out.

With just five minutes left in the game, sensational Messi received a one-two pass from Dembele, dribbled round one defender and then tried to scoop the ball over Bono.

The Sevilla keeper managed to save but Messi pounced on the rebound to tap the ball in from three yards. It ended; Sevilla 0-2 Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester City battled hard to defeat impressive West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, February 27.

The Citizens continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League after they narrowly beat West Ham United by 2-1 at the Etihad.

Two of City's center-back Ruben Dias and John Stones scored in each half of the game as Mikhail Antonio got the Hammers' only goal.
