President Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed the calls for the federal government to grant amnesty to armed bandits and other criminals.
The Nigerian president at a security meeting on Thursday, February 25, said his administration will deal decisively with bandits, kidnappers, and insurgents.

According to The Nation, the meeting had in attendance the northern state governor's forum, northern traditional rulers’ council, and a delegation from the federal government.
Buhari who was represented by his chief of staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, said it is time to treat criminals as criminals and stop ethnic profiling.
He said:
“Criminals are criminals and should be dealt with accordingly, without resorting to ethnic profiling. I have already tasked the new Service Chiefs to devise new strategies that will end this ugly situation where the lives of our people continue to be threatened by hoodlums and criminals.
“I expect that at this meeting, your Forum will also discuss and devise ways of building stronger collaboration with the security architecture and the people in defeating criminality across the region and the nation at large.''

The Punch reported that the president said the security challenges confronting the nation were slowing down the drive to pull Nigerians out of poverty and economic deprivation.
He called on northern state governors and Nigerian citizens to lend support to national development and security out nation.
Meanwhile, Abubakar Sani Bello, the governor of Niger state, has accused the federal government of not doing enough to secure the release of 42 persons abducted at Government Science College, Kagara.
Premium Times reports that the governor said he has received “little or no support” from the federal government towards the rescue of the abducted victims.
Legit.ng gathered that the bandits abducted the persons, including 27 students, three workers, and 12 members of their families in the school located in Rafi local government area of the state.
