Football legend Ronaldinho finally breaks silence after losing mum to COVID-19, makes big statement

- Ronaldinho has thanked everyone for their love and support after the loss of his mum

- The 71-year-old passed away over the weekend after suffering coronavirus complications

Ronaldinho recently lost his mum due to coronavirus complications and the Brazilian icon has thanked everyone for their love and support, ESPN FC.

Dona Miguelina Eloi Assis dos Santos passed away at the age of 71 at a local hospital after being treated for COVID-19 since December.

The whole world have been thrown into mourning in the past weekend following the death of the mother of the 2002 World Cup winner.

Ronaldinho for the first time released a statement which was quoted by ESPN FC:

"My family and I want to thank all of you for your affection and support that we are receiving in a very difficult time.
"My mother was an inspiration of strength and joy to all who knew her and will continue to exercise her light in our lives forever.
"With the strength she taught us, we must continue our journey. Thanks"

Ronaldinho's former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi also sent an emotional message to his bereaved friend on his social media handle.

"Ronnie, I have no words, I can't believe it.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier Raphinha was among the scorers in Leeds United's 3-0 win over Southampton in a Premier League match played at Elland Road, Mirror.

The Brazilian marked Leed's 200th win in the English topflight division with a free-kick from 25-yards with six minutes left to play.

And after scoring the goal Raphinha celebrated and took his shirt off to show a tribute to Ronaldinho’s mother, Dona Miguelina Eloi Assis dos Santos, who died from coronavirus.
