Breaking: Anxiety as bandits strike again in northern state, kidnap 18 passengers

- No fewer than 18 people travelling in Niger state were kidnapped when suspected bandits attacked

- The daring bandits reportedly carried out the attack at Yakila village in Rafi local government area

- During the incident, the bandits were said to have left behind a woman with her child

A report by The Punch indicates that bandits kidnapped eighteen passengers of the Niger State Transport Authority.

According to the report, the bandits left one of the passengers a woman, and her baby in a vehicle while they took the other travellers.

The incident occurred at Yakila village in Rafi local government area of Niger state as the passengers were heading to Minna from Kotangora.

Mallam Ibrahim Inga, the director-general Niger State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the abduction while speaking to the newspaper.

Inga explained that the woman who was left behind said the bandits blocked the way and took 18 passengers on the bus.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that another kidnapping incident occurred in Nigeria on Tuesday, February 9, when an aide to the Taraba governor, Bala Baba, was abducted.

Baba was abducted from his residence in the Sabongari area of Jalingo. The gunmen fired several shots to scare away residents before abducting the aide who serves as the personal assistant to the deputy governor.

The abduction was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Taraba police command, Reform Leha.

In a related development, three Chinese expatriates were kidnapped in Akere village in Atakunmosa West of Osun state on Monday, February 1.

During the incident, a policeman attached to the Chinese was killed by the attackers.

The corps commander of Amotekun in the state, General Bashir Adewinbi also confirmed the incident.
