Hollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has apologised after featuring in an advertisement that fans have deemed inappropriate.
In the commercial, the actress could be seen losing her boyfriend to a lighter-skinned woman and only gets him back after using the skin-lightening cream.
The entertainment industry has been looking down on people with darker skin tones and the star’s participation in the commercial only makes her tone-deaf to what’s happening.
However, while speaking to the Guardian publication, the 38-year-old apologised and said she regrets doing that. She stated:
"I cannot go back and change what I did, but I can apologise and I do so sincerely."
The star also revealed that doing that advert is one of her missteps in her flourishing career and that watching it took her back to the insecurities she had as a little girl.
"When I saw the ad, I felt sad. I saw myself through my 13-year-old eyes when I was making concoctions in my bathroom trying to lighten my skin tone.
"I would never go around saying you need to becomes fair and that is not the only way you will be beautiful because I do not endorse that."
However, people who found the ad as distasteful have started digging into her archived interviews where she largely talked about loving herself as a dark-skinned person.

Previously, the beautiful actress got married to the handsome artiste Nick Jonas in a huge colourful wedding.
After the commercial, there have been people who have called her a hypocrite for saying one thing and doing the other.
Notably, the star participated in pageant competitions in her home country in India where she won Miss India in 2000 and was later crowned Miss World in that same year.
Despite the two wins, the model disclosed that she never believed she was beautiful enough because of her skin tone.
Legit.ng previously reported that the celebrated Indian actress was full of encomium for Nigeria's former minister of finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala after meeting with her for the first time.
Chopra, who won the Miss World 2000 pageant, commended the former minister for really getting engaged in God's work by chairing a public-private global health partnership that has helped to immunise more than 760 million children.
