Igbo presidency: It's a party affair, Gov Umahi says APC leaders will decide fate of southeast

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state on Wednesday, February 10, said that the fate of the southeast concerning the 2023 presidency is the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the comment when he visited the APC secretariat in Abuja to meet with the caretaker committee chairman of the party and Yobe state governor, Mai Bala Buni.

Umahi stated this in response to the zoning of the presidency to the southeast ahead of the country's next presidential election which was also shared on the party's Twitter page.

According to the Ebonyi state governor, he has no personal opinion on which zone should take the party's presidential ticket.

He went on to note that any chieftain of the ruling party to agitate for his zone without recourse to the party organs would amount to indiscipline.

Meanwhile, Umahi declared that everyone in the southeast wants to join the ruling APC.

The governor made the comment on Wednesday, February 10 when he visited the caretaker committee chairman of the party in Abuja

Governor Umahi who was speaking to journalists including a Legit.ng reporter, described the ongoing registration and revalidation exercise of the party as 'world-class.'

In a related development, Ken Nnamani, a former Senate president, has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government has done tremendously well for the southeast region.

He stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He said although it has not been well publicised, the infrastructure development in the southeast has been massive.

Speaking on who would fly the APC flag in the 2023 presidential election, the ex-Senate president said the ruling party would determine, adding that the Igbo people deserve to be considered for the presidential slot.
