The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reacted to numerous alarms raised by the Department of State Services (DSS), saying it should stop causing tension and do its job.
CAN on Thursday, February 4, claimed that many Nigerians have lost trust in the DSS because on countless occasions, it has failed in its singular responsibility of ensuring their security, The Cable reports.
The spokesperson of CAN's president Samsom Ayokunle, Adebayo Oladeji, pointed out that the criminals and armed bandits who terrorise Nigerians are actual human beings who are not in any way invincible if the security operatives are really ready to track and catch them.
Olajide noted that rather than raising alarms and only gathering intelligence, the DSS should go for these persons to register confidence in the minds of those they are supposed to protect.
Ayokunle's aide called on the media to ask the federal government key security questions and speak up for Nigerians via front page comments and editorials.
He stated:
“Whenever the DSS raises alarm over the security of the country, ordinarily, one should take them seriously because of the fact that their primary responsibility includes, but not limited to intelligence gathering.
“Terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminals are not invincible and until they are apprehended and successfully prosecuted, people will no longer have respect for those who are in charge of the security.
"The media should stand up and asked our government serious questions through front page comments and editorial. Things are becoming increasingly complicated daily. Criminals are operating as if our security agencies are on holidays."

Meanwhile, Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Gumi, a Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, had taken another bold and rather dangerous step to end banditry not only in the state but in the whole of northern Nigeria.
The fearless scholar is famous for going into the deep recesses of forests to dialogue with the armed criminals in a bid to hear their grievances and possibly fashion out a workable method of stopping the bloodletting.
