Recall that Legit.ng had reported that despite the appeal by the government and its agencies including the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) and the ministry of communication and digital economy, many Nigerians are yet to enroll for the NIN two weeks before the deadline.

Legit.ng's investigation revealed that many Nigerians have not registered due to fear of being infected with the coronavirus pandemic as a result of long queues with no regard for social distancing.

In the analysis, Legit.ng’s regional reporter in Osun state, Sola Adetona, wrote about people’s plights in their efforts to get NIN registration before the February 9, deadline given by the federal government finally elapses.

Legit.ng also reported that the FG commended network subscribers who have successfully linked their Subscribers Identification Module (SIM) with the National Identification Numbers (NIN) for their painstaking efforts and commitment.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) asked the subscribers who have linked their SIM to dial *346# to retrieve their NIN from the mobile numbers they enrolled with.

The NIMC said via its Twitter page, @nimc_ng, that the SIM can be linked to different telecommunication operators using these codes: MTN: *785#; Airtel: *121*1#; Glo: *109*NIN#; 9Moble: *200*8#.
