Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has called for caution over the uproar generated by the seven days quit notice given to the Fulani herdsmen in the state by the Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Legit.ng reports that the governor in a thread of tweets on Wednesday, January 27, noted that after a meeting with the representatives of Igangan, Ibarapaland and the state commissioner of police, Ngozi Onadeko, his administration came up with a security strategy for that zone.
He said he had resolved to redeploy 200 members of the Oyo State Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun to kidnapping/banditry hotspots in the state, especially in the Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun zones.
Makinde said:
"Following the meeting held with representatives of Igangan, Ibarapaland which was attended by security stakeholders including the recently appointed Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko, our administration has come up with a security strategy for that zone:
"We have resolved to redeploy 200 members of the Oyo State Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun to kidnapping/banditry hotspots in the state, especially in the Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun zones."
The governor said he would hold town hall meetings and community outreaches that would bring together residents and security agencies to talk about any issues of immediate concern and how they can be resolved through dialogue and more effective community policing.
He added that his administration would proceed with the documentation of foreigners, especially those who are working in mines.
The governor said this would ensure that only foreigners who have legitimate interests in Oyo state remain within its territory.
Makinde also noted that his government would continue to enforce the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019, saying that the law regulates the activities of herdsmen in the state.
He said he had directed the Amotekun Corps to continue collaborating with ‘Operation Burst’ and local vigilante groups in enforcing this law.
The governor stated that many have been killed and/or lost their livelihoods to criminal trespass and the government is considering compensating families of victims or victims who can prove their claims.
He added:
"We have started the process of prosecuting all suspects arrested for criminal activities in Ibarapa and the Oke-Ogun zones of the state in connection with the ongoing tensions in the area."

It was reported that Jiji asked Governor Makinde to arrest Igboho without any further delay.
The Yoruba rights activist had ordered herdsmen to vacate Igangan in Ibarapa North local government over incessant kidnap and molestation of women in the area.
